Former UM star, 'phenom' Hutchinson awaits Hall fate

site of Sunday’s Super Bowl,Womens Frank Clark Jersey, and will announce the Hall of Fame class later that night. Randy Moss,Hutchinson and former Wolverine Ty Law are finalists hoping to be selected for one of five modern-era spots. The 48-person selection committee will meet Saturday in Minneapolis, Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher also are first-time finalists.

Hutchinson was a four-year starter from 1996-2000 and in 1997,At Michigan,Womens Lavonte David Jersey, he and fellow redshirt freshman Jeff Backus anchored the left side of the offensive line on the Wolverines’ national championship team. He was All-Big Ten every season and was a consensus All-American in 2000.

he played for Seattle, Minnesota and Tennessee,He was a first-round selection by the Seahawks in 2001. During his 12-year pro career, where he currently works in the scouting department. He played in all 16 regular-season games in eight of 12 seasons. Hutchinson was a seven-time Pro Bowler and a six-time All Pro.

but he wanted to be recruited defensively,Womens Mike Evans Jersey, he was a great offensive player, Michigan's head coach for 13 seasons, said of Hutchinson. “It came down to us and Notre Dame. Our plan was to redshirt him anyway. When I went down (to Florida to recruit him),“The truth is,” Lloyd Carr,Womens O. J. Howard Jersey, I promised him an opportunity to play defense and I said, ’Here’s what we’ll do — you’ll play defense this fall and we’ll see how it goes.’

I knew he was blessed with everything you want in an offensive lineman. When I really found that out, I didn’t know defensively. After watching him for a fall (when he redshirted), we went into bowl preparation,“I knew he was a great offensive player, and we had a lot of work that week with our younger players. That first day he went over with Debo (Mike DeBord), and you could just see. It was one of those deals. One snapshot was all you needed. He had a great spring.”

he was one of the top guys, in the NFL, in my opinion,” said DeBord, who is now Indiana’s offensive coordinator. “He’s everything you want as an offensive lineman. He has great intelligence, he’s very powerful, if he wasn’t the best,“It’s my opinion that — and I’m not the judge of NFL linemen — but after coaching in the NFL for five years and watching him during that time, has great balance, great feet. I think he was an unbelievable offensive lineman.”

Carr said Hutchinson checked every box when it came to the perfect offensive lineman.

size, his toughness, mobility, his intelligence, his competitiveness, his will to win and his leadership, strength,“If you look at athletic ability, I’d give him a 10 in all those,” Carr said. “He’s a phenom.”

a two-time captain at Michigan who made 50 straight starts at right tackle,Jon Jansen, played on the offensive line at Michigan with Hutchinson for two seasons.

Jansen said if you wanted to build the perfect guard, Hutchinson would be the prototype.

you’d pretty much build Steve Hutchinson. He was thick,” Jansen said. “When you look at an offensive guard and you tried to design one, he was wide,“Steve was probably the most natural offensive lineman I’ve played with, he was the right height. He was never too high. He was always in good position. He had good flexibility and strong as a bear.”

dodging right and back to his left. At last, in what seems to be cool desperation,Tom Brady is in trouble. The last minute and its precious seconds are vanishing. Brady is scrambling, he flings the football.

skittering through the enemy secondary on an uncharted course,Downfield Wes Welker, grabs the football. First down. The late drive to victory continues.

But in the flashback, the image of Welker turns into Julian Edelman making a scooping grab; and then it turns into Danny Amendola leaping and snatching the football away from some larger defensive back.

Franklin has clear ties to new Seahawks defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr but also has a small tie to the organization itself. Franklin's only year in the NFL as a player came in 1989 with the Seahawks. Although he was drafted in the 11th round by the then-Houston Oilers in 1988; he only played a single season in Seattle the following year. He appeared in seven games that season.

he landed on Norton Jr's defensive staff in Oakland in 2015 where he helped continue the growth of superstar pass rusher Khalil Mack. After the coaching shakeup in Oakland, finding his way into coaching he has ties to head coach Pete Carroll as well. Franklin coached Carroll's defensive line for two separate stints at USC in 2005 and 2009 . With two college stops in between,Authentic Frank Clark Jerseyy, which saw Jon Gruden take over for the fired Jack Del Rio,Eventually, Franklin wasn't retained.

Of all of the Seahawks’ position groups heading into the offseason, the defensive line and the secondary may be the most intriguing in terms of the potential change that could occur.

If what some think could happen — Sheldon Richardson moves on, Michael Bennett is released and Cliff Avril retires — then the line could have a pretty significantly different look in 2018.

If only some of that occurs — say Bennett and Richardson stay — then the line could look largely as it did for most of the 2017 season.

there will be change, and depending on the decisions of the next few weeks and free agency,Regardless, the line could again be a major focus in the draft — the Seahawks have used either their first or second pick in the draft on a defensive linemen each of the last three years and could well do so again in 2018.

later confirmed as “a really bad concussion” by coach Pete Carroll,Training camp began with the surprising news that the team’s first pick in the 2017 draft — Malik McDowell — had suffered significant injuries in an ATV accident, an injury that would eventually sideline him for the season and has his long-term future remaining in doubt.

The team had hoped McDowell could play in a role similar to that of Bennett as an end in the base defense and inside on passing downs, if not starting immediately at least playing a significant amount.

Instead, McDowell’s loss ultimately led to the trade for Richardson the week before the season began to fill the void.

The trade for Richardson led to some national talk that the Seahawks could have maybe the best defensive line in the NFL — a headline on a Bleacher Report story from Mike Freeman a few days after the deal stated “The Seahawks defense is scaring teams once again.”

Bennett battled knee and plantar fascia issues and Clark had injuries to both hands and a hamstring. Jordan’s return was also delayed by offseason knee surgery and then after making a debut that might have been better than expected,Avril was lost for the season — and maybe for his career — with a neck/stinger injury in the fourth game against the Colts, missed three games with a knee injury. Jones also missed the last five games with an ankle issue while Richardson also battled an oblique injury.

the line showed flashes of living up to the hype — in one midseason stretch Seattle held six of seven opponents to less than 98 yards rushing and 3.8 per carry,When healthy, including the Eagles and Atlanta.

First will be figuring out the futures of Bennett and Richardson. Bennett himself acknowledged at the end of the year his future is in question. Seattle would save only $2 million against the cap by waiving him but could be thinking it’s simply time to move on before age and injuries take a further toll.

Richardson expressed interest in returning. But he also expressed interest in exploring the free agent market. And he’s regarded as one of only a few really marquee players available at his position, meaning he has plenty of incentive to see what kind of offers he’ll get.

letting Richardson leave would almost certainly net Seattle a third-round comp pick in 2019,Seattle could head that off by placing a franchise tag on Richardson. But that’s estimated at $14.5 million which would make him the highest-paid player on defense — have to imagine Earl Thomas would take note of that. Some have suggested Richardson could be tagged and then traded for draft picks. At the worst, which it could trade this year if it wanted. Something will happen soon on that as the tag period begins Feb. 20 and ends March 6 — essentially a week before the free agent period begins on March 14.
